Sammy J. Lewellen

August 16, 1933 ~ February 12, 2019 (age 85)

Sammy J. Lewellen Sr., an 85 year old Trenton, MO resident, passed away at 4:46 p.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.

The body was cremated under the direction of Whitaker Eads Funeral Home of Trenton. A private memorial service will be held later.

Mr. Lewellen was born Aug. 16, 1933 in Attica, Indiana the son of Alvin and Marie Mae Sims Lewellen, Sr. He graduated from Attica High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He was also award a Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, U.N. Service Medal, Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Combat Medical Badge, and ROK Korean War Service Medal for his service.

On April 21, 1954 he was married to Mary Carolyn Ellis at Trenton. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2007.

Surviving relatives include his children, Sammy Lewellen Jr. of Trenton, Martha Thrun and husband Larry of Trenton, Carol Jordan of Kingston, MO, Martin Lewellen and his wife Renee of Des Moines, IA, Jimmy Lewellen of Trenton, Kevin Lewellen, Trenton, Jeffery Lewellen of Chillicothe, MO,  and brothers Alvin Lewellen of Chillicothe, Mo and Ted Lewellen of Brookston, IN. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents.
