Mildred M. Brown, 99, passed away May 9, 2019 at Oak Point Assisted Living, Kearney, MO, where she had been a resident for almost two years.
Mildred was born on May 3, 1920, in a farmhouse near Harris, MO, the daughter of Guy D. and Murl (Pigg) Reger. She attended grade school at Colfax and Center Grove one room schools and high school at Newtown, MO. She attended her senior year and graduated from Milan High School in 1938. She married James “June” Brown, Jr on February 2, 1939, who preceded her in death on July 6, 1989. Mildred and June farmed most of their lives east of Newtown, MO where they bred and raised registered Angus cattle. They also owned and operated Brown’s Supermarket and Feed in Newtown for several years. They retired and moved to Trenton, MO in 1981. Mildred loved flowers and gardening, and shared and sold strawberries from her famous strawberry bed for many years. She was also well known for her homemade cinnamon rolls which were enjoyed by many family members and friends over the years. In her retirement years, she enjoyed crocheting and continued this hobby until her eyes failed her in her later years.
She is survived by her son Gary (Audrey) Brown of Kearney, MO and daughter Betty Dickenson of Liberty, MO. Also surviving are four granddaughters: Sandy (Dan) Smith, Overland Park, KS; Lara Leatz, Greenwood, MO; Kristy (Frank) Lewis, Platte City, MO; and Melinda (Clint) Mason, Lawson, MO; and eight great grandchildren: Austin and Zachary Leatz, Nathan and Garret Smith, Grace and Maddie Lewis, and Will and Elena Mason. Also surviving are two nephews, Al Reger and Mark Sherwood.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dean and W. Dale Reger, and one sister Phyllis Sherwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2019, at Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton, MO, with visitation proceeding at 10:00. Burial services will follow at the Newtown Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Newtown Cemetery.
