Larry LaVerne Leininger, a 73-year-old resident of Trenton, passed away at 5:05 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton, Pastor Steve Martin officiating. Visitation an hour before service. Burial will be Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.
Larry was born January 14, 1946 in Boone, Iowa, the son of LaVerne and Chloe Leininger. He grew up on a farm. He attended school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church through eighth grade and graduated from Boone High School in 1964. He served in the United States National Guard from 1964 to 1976. He married Judith Ann (Meyer) on August 14, 1966 in Boone, Iowa. They have three children: Shelly, Stacey and Shawn.
Larry moved to Trenton in 1977 as the Plant Manager of Rolf es Manufacturing Company. He later became Engineering Manager for Modine Manufacturing until he retired in 2005. Larry was an active member of the community as he served many years on the Trenton Board of Public Works, Trenton Chamber of Commerce, Riverside Country Club Board of Directors, FFDD (Families and Friends of the Developmentally Disabled), Friendship Place Apartments, volunteer at NCMC Holiday Hoops and recently with Trenton Bright Futures. He held several offices at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Trenton. He taught Adult and Youth Sunday School and Bible Classes many, many years. He enjoyed helping with The Gifted Disability Group and The Trenton Heroes and especially the “Celebrity” Game and “Festival of Trees.” He was always interested in his children’s careers and activities and proud of what each of them had become. He dearly loved his grandchildren and liked to attend any event they participated in. He loved to help build, and make things for his family, restoring tractors that his wife grew up on and one that he grew up with. He liked to golf with friends.
Survivors include his wife Judie and daughter Shelly of the home, daughter Stacey Clodfelter and her husband, Kent, of Kansas City, Missouri, son Shawn and wife Cara Leininger of Laredo and five grandchildren: Ashley and Zachary Burson, Elijah, Rosella and Lydia Leininger. A brother, Pastor Keith Leininger and wife Debbie of Manhattan, IL, Sisters, Jean (Lowell) Timm of Lafayette, IN, Lynne (Dr. Jack) Johnson of Milford, IA, Cindy (David) Andorf of DesMoines, IA, a sister-law Beth (Earl) Stockton of Diamond Bar, CA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents LaVerne and Chloe Leininger of Boone, IA and several Uncles and Aunts.
Memorials may be given to The Trenton Heroes or Wesley United Methodist Church.
A reception for the family will be held Sunday after the graveside service in Boone at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Boone, Iowa.
