George Constant, an 86-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Monday April 22, 2019 at Mosaic Life Care Medical Center in St. Joseph.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Trenton, Mo. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery north of Trenton.
Mr. Constant was born on August 14, 1932 in rural Livingston County, the son of James Harvey and Ada Ruth Fitzpatrick Constant. He was a 1949 graduate of Chillicothe High School. In 1955 he attended Trenton Junior College, now North Central Missouri College. He began his banking career in 1955 as a bookkeeper for Trenton Trust Company. During his 42 years at Trenton Trust he was also a teller, loan officer, trust officer and senior vice-president before retiring in 1997. He attended the University of Wisconsin, School of Banking, graduating in 1965.
Mr. Constant was active in business organizations including Council of Administration to Missouri Bankers Association and Chairman of District 2 and member of the Trust Committee of the Missouri Bankers Association. In the local community, Mr. Constant has been a member of the Board of Directors of Wright Memorial Hospital and Riverside Country Club, president of the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of Grundy County Industrial Development Corporation, and a member of the Trenton Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife Sandy Constant of the home and son Bruce Constant and his wife Ann of Trenton; daughter Lori Adkins and her husband Doug of Lee’s Summit; son Andrew Tapscott and his wife Michelle of Richmond, VA; grandchildren Sherry Carey of St. Louis; Darcy Oetting and her husband Kevin of Platte City; Rachel Sides and her husband Ty of Hallsville; Sarah Harris and her husband Chris of Kansas City; Lauren Cogdell and her husband Josh of Fayetteville,NC; Connor Tapscott of Richmond VA; Katie Adkins and fiancé Derek Mundt of Nashville, TN; Kevin Adkins and wife Haylee of Belton, MO.
He is survived by seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two sisters, Helen Buckner of Wheeling, Mo. and Lillian Frizzell of Corydon, IA; three sisters-in-law Jo Ann Constant, Norma Constant and Jean Constant all of Chillicothe, MO and one brother-in-law Bill Stucker of Chillicothe, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers; daughter Sherry Constant Carey; four brothers Jack, John, Bud and Joe Constant; two sisters, Clara Phillips and Leila Stucker; three brothers-in-law, Charles Frizzell, Felix Buckner, and Dale Phillips and two nieces.
There will be no scheduled visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to North Central Missouri College Foundation, Inc. for the Sherry Constant Carey Memorial Scholarship Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Whitaker Eads Funeral Homes, Trenton, Missouri.
