Dorothy Porter, a 90 year old Trenton, MO resident, passed away at 8:10 p.m., Monday, February 11, 2019 at her residence in Trenton.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Trenton First Christian Church. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Gower, MO. A visitation is scheduled from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton.
Dorothy Faye Porter was born July 13, 1928 in Gower, MO to Wilber B. Sr. and Ruth Belle (Perkins) Wilhoit. She graduated from Gower High School and then received her teaching degree from North West Missouri State Teacher’s College. On August 16, 1948 she was united in marriage to Gean Paul Porter in Plattsburg, MO. After college they moved to Trenton and Dorothy began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Edinburg. She later began teaching at Pleasant View RVI where she retired after 40 years of teaching. Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church, was active with the American Association of Professional Women, the American Association of University Women, and was the Worthy Matron for the Order of the Eastern Star. In her spare time she loved doing genealogy research and telling stories with family and friends.
Surviving relatives include her son Paul Porter and wife Becky of Marshall, MO, granddaughters Andrea McKown and husband Nate of Kearney, MO, and Lindsey Stevens and husband Danny of Trenton and great grandchildren Austin and Lexie Stevens and Gabby, Andrew, Aubrey and Annie McKown.
Those preceding her in death include her parents, husband, a son Robert Porter, and brothers Wilber B. Wilhoit Jr., and Kermit Wilhoit.
Memorial donations are suggested in lieu of flowers to the North Central Missouri College Nursing Program and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
